Summer Log

So the summer holidays (vacation to the State Side readers) are here but where in the world have I been, I hear you ask. Well the first week is always a menagerie of caching up with the 1001 things that have been grossly neglected, rejected and put to rest while the demands of the school term took over my life. But life goes on I hear you say, we all have demands - yeh, I know - you're a gazillion times more organized than me OK! I'm calm. So with only six days to go before we also go stateside my daily schedule begins in ernest. We have done our resting and chillin, found old toys and books that have not been seen for months, doug out our bikes, skateboards, heelys, jump-ropes you name it;we even sampled life as couch potatoes for a WHOLE DAY (heaven forbid!). But since I'm a mom that knows that old fella 'WASTED TIME' who has a best mate called 'REGRET' always lurking close behind I need to crack the whip a little. Not to take the fun out of summer but rather to pack it with memories. There's nothing worse than having the end of the summer creep up on you and you wonder where the time went and what you did; you have no memories of anything significant that happened. It's no surprise that sometimes our chickadees appreciate a little help with coming up with things to do, considering the creative part of their brain is also on vacation: So our summer of 'supervised freedom' begins.

TODAY
To offset our carbon footprints we will PARK and RIDE. We will drive the short distance to the metro (train/subway) station and ride the metro into town (our wonderful Bull Ring Shopping Center). Today is bookstore day.

You know.....

The great thing about reading is that even if it not possible to physically travel, books can take you anywhere and everywhere. Seriously, encourage your kids to read, read, read! It opens up a whole new world of experience, fantasy and knowledge. Last week I was so engrossed in the book I was reading I now have to stop myself from believing that I have actually been to Afghanistan.
