Day 4, 361 to Go

Snow Joke!

Ok so I got a little sucked in by the "winter storm is coming hysteria'. I had heard that bad weather was coming but really didn't  pay too much attention to it; Until my DH called to inform me that they had terrible ice, snow, sleet and blackouts where they were- they had it all. He encouraged me to stock -up just in case.

So off I went to WalMart and joined in with the panic buying. I needed water and firewood, two of the hottest commodities during panic buying season. Now usually we have a game plan: As we enter the store I send my big DS in one direction to grab hot commodity number one, while little DS and I head for the other. I opened my mouth to do the same as we entered the store to execute the plan and was harshly reminded that  my big DS is no longer here to grab the items I need, I started to send little DS and then paused. At times like this people become irrational, crazed, will kill for a loaf of bread, I wanted to see my son again so I had to change strategies. We would both headed for water (and had to settle for a generic brand, not our usual 3 galon dispenser). Then we both shot over to the firewood to grab a couple of packets; that should tide us over for a few days should there be a power outage. We'd be all set; we had food, munchies, candles, batteries, water, masking tape (huh?), and...NO FIREWOOD!, it was ALL gone!

Long story short, after promising myself not to get caught up, we eventally found some at or fourth stop, though I did try a couple of gas stations after getting it, just in case, I was now in emergency mode (you can never have too much in an emegency, hee-hee). Traffic was crazy, parking was crazy, people were crazy, store attendents were crazy, news chanels were crazy, weather men were crazy.

We finally got home, a litle friend came over to wait it out with little DS and the wait began. The snow was scheduled to arrive at around 11 p.m. So we watched and waited; waited and watched, waited and waited some more. Maybe that snow storm would come while we were sleeping. So we thought, better get some good sleep, we might need to dig ourselves out of here by tomorrow. So we set up the candles, positioned the water, the flashlights and masking tape (?) and entered a fitful sleep.

At 7 a.m I awoke with a start. The room was glowing with a bright white light radiating from outside the window. It was here! The snow storm was here. The winter havoc was here. We were snowed in, we would become weekend recluses. The power would go out, we would not be able to communicate. We would only have ourselves to rely on. But it was OK, because we were prepared. We panic bought and we had everything we needed.
So boldly I walked over to the window, I was ready to shout to the blanket of white " we are ready! fearless! prepared! give us your best shot!" And that's exactly waht we got. Two mmilimeter's of snow! That's it!
So, all I'm saying is. THERE HAD BETTER BE MORE SNOW THAN THIS!
I'm calm.
